IT HAS THE SAME BENEFITS AS LOW IMPACT AEROBICS AND IT WORKS THE BRAIN, TOO!
Easy to clock 7000+ steps in an evening. Dancing uses both sides of the brain - a proven workout for the mind. Even better, square dancing turns exercise into something that's social and FUN to do with a group of friends.
We will take on students from age 12 and up, This unique form of team dancing is awesome at any age - from families with school-aged kids, to young teens and adults of all ages.
You don't need a partner to Square Dance.
THIS IS TEAM DANCING DONE IN GROUPS OF EIGHT.
Eight people form a square, two per side. Traditionally, four couples made up the square, but today many singles participate. Just like on any other dance floor, it's not unusual to see two women paired together.
Round Dancing is a frequent companions to Square Dancing.
IN OUR ACTIVITY, ROUND DANCING REFERS TO BALLROOM DANCE RHYTHMS.
Examples of rhythms include waltz, two-step, rumba, cha, jive, and fox trot. Often an evening of square dance will include some round dancing, such as two-step or waltz.
Round Dancing is ballroom dancing with a twist. Individual dance steps are taught. The dance instructor arranges those steps into a dance, and announces each step just before the dancer carries them out. In this way, dancers do not need to memorize sequences and partners do not need to take the lead or follow. Some say this is an easier, less stressful introduction to couple-dancing.
Today's Square Dancing is international.
AND ALL THE CALLS (DANCE STEPS) ARE CALLED IN ENGLISH!
This allows dancers to participate wherever it's happening - across Canada and the U.S., England, France, Germany, Holland, Sweden, Denmark, Czech Republic & Slovakia, China, Japan, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand.
Laugh...it's okay! Experienced dancers and new dancers always mess up. Don't make a big deal out of it and do your best to regroup the square. The best way to regroup is to form two parallel lines. The caller will see that you are in a line and he will do his best to get your square dancing again. REMEMBER! This is a casual and fun dance style! Apologies are not necessary!
